    To splice the 14mm 4 strands twisted polypro rope for my slings, I use my Leatherman plyer as a fid. I sneak the conical noze between the strands, push it through, open the jaws, put in them the end of a strand, close firmly the jaws and pull back draging the strand. It works very well.

    Use the copper tube sold in straight lengths. It's hardened copper and you can't fold that by hand. The one sold in roll is softened and maybe not abble to stand well a battle for a splice.

    The funny curves/twist in the two strands in front (the low one is the worst) show the weak spots. The three strands don't have the same prestress by far and can't share the load. That puts an heavy dent in the safety margin.
