I like this one (both by the gear and the site's cleaning). Light, simple but well thougt for the task and effective. Good description starts at 3:24 Incredibly Dangerous Cliff Side Recovery! This one scared me.. - YouTube

Nice but heavy. I thought of that to replace the small lift arm in my van. Likely 1 ton capacity (400kg yet), with a sliding beam (to close the doors), but that would a big dead weight for an occasionnal use in a day to day vehicule.

That looks a bit strange, some would say ugly:/:, but that's well thought. Nice. That's tempting, but if I do the same with my chipper, I will overturn it two seconds after taking out the slack, outriggers or not.

Yes, there are two noticeable : the contact between the horizontal pipes and the main mast. Maybe not enough to be a concern, but the mast would tend to be folded outside at this point. Too bad, this damned chipper is in the way.:D I don't remember if you said it previously, which load do you...

I have no doubt about the usefulness. It's just my van makes 8.6 feet with the warning lights on top and I can't even go to the supermarket or the hardware store, due to the stupîd overhead beams as a gate (to avoid the trespassing from the traveling guys). Many are around 7 feet height. I don't...

Ok. I see it, but I'm still worried by the mast's hight. I'd make it foldable toward the front to be more compact, maybe at the level of the horizontal pipes. How long is your boom ? It's hard to tell by the pics.

That wouldn't be as bad as it seems. The drill doesn't pull, the winch does. The drill stays out of the front line MA and "all" it has to do is to give a bit of torque with plenty of rpm. I guess that if the tiny gears become overloaded, the motor itself may have something to say first.

I got the "light but strong" advantage of cable/mast setup. But the downside I see is that's bulky and likely to catch/grab the cables every so often in the limbs. That's a concern when working with and between the trees. Sorting the limbs from a rat nest can lead easily to popping the cables...

Not the ones who call the vid a "how to" something, but that's the first time they try it. That gets under my skin. A lot of time spent to see a sub-par result, at best.

What length do you want to make it approximately ? The forestry trailer with the quad is way too long for an urban area. The work zones where I could use it are extremely rare. Even the transport would be a big challenge. I have to load it in the back of my van (for my present setup) and that's...

An hydraulic system would be so handy, with more functions allowed than the purely mechanical, too bad we are loosing the KISS principle. Kranman makes some very attractive equipment with self propelled trailer, small hydraulic crane, stabilizers, winch, all in one unit. But it looks bulky...
