    If ring is mounted and you are going to break it were it sit in the box, you really need to try very hard. It would leave marks on piston as well as a lot more damage to box and bag. I seen a lot worse without damages.

    I get a lot of pistons in store boxes. A bit paper around piston and a bit extra in top if needed. Plastic all around. I guess they could be damaged, but I had luck so far. No squished boxes even. Shipping to US you need to make sure you can drop it from third floor or from a truck running 100...

    Was it after market piston on internet buy? Contact them. Say what you are worried about and ask if they have any good solusion. I order a lot of stuff supplied my mail. Here it is pretty rare I see any shipping damages. If it got busted in box with piston that had to have shown on the box.

    Change the seals now as you have it down in parts anyway. Is it scored all around or just by exoust? This is heat scooring. Could very well be from lean running but not becurse carb is old. Could also be over loaded... Could be defect membranes or gaskets, but defect carbs is not really common...
