    another wake up moment

This reminds me of a rule I recently heard of. “Thou shall not use a top handle chainsaw on the ground.” What do folks think about that? Seems Un-American to me, though I think this kind of injury is what drove the rule. Not sayings it’s worth the risk, but cutting and stacking limbs with a top...

Best way to count cover/core strands?

So where do you all look up these numbers? As far as I can tell most companies only publish the cover strand numbers and that’s usually just for climbing ropes. Ixskllr the number of strands changes how you do your taper, when I’ve gotten it wrong (with my limited knowledge) it usually means...

Best way to count cover/core strands?

Thanks Burnham! Seems like a pro splicer would have a spreadsheet for all the common ropes. I haven’t found too many specs that talk about much more than the cover strands. I was surprised that stable braid was 16 strands, always just assumed 24. It does look way different than the common...

Best way to count cover/core strands?

i finally cut and dissected a short piece of 3/8 stable braid to discover 16 cover strands and 8 core. Is there a better way? If you have a good pattern, counting left or right strands until they repeat and doubling it, seems to work. Not for core strands though with no pattern? The dyed core...

Ever dyed an Echo saw casing back to original orange?

I think I remember John going over his dye process in this video.

    Adjustable Rope Swing

Knots still get the job done! ended up just going with double overhands in 9/16 inch. Figure 9 just didn't look as clean Burnham. Should work for anyone except toddlers and professional basketball players!

    Adjustable Rope Swing

anyone dabble in the ashley stopper knot? I kind of think a line of double overhands would look pretty clean, but I'll test out the figure 9 as well.

    Adjustable Rope Swing

Good advice! Knots have always solved the adjustability issue. Follow up question... Best knot for grabbing onto a rope?

    Adjustable Rope Swing

Random question... I had to step in and re-hang a small rope swing near my house that had broken at least 4 times this summer. It turns out the hardware store still doesn't have very good rope :) So... I've got a pretty solid rig, but the height of the handle has to be just right for different...

I had heard your book was back in print, but $36 is a real deal! The old copy that got handed down to me when folks retired is currently missing (I’m sure it will eventually show up), so I bought a new work copy and a copy for home. Thanks for sharing your hard earned knowledge!

Cory, I think we're all waiting for your you tube channel! Until then, I think Jake is kicking ass and not afraid to show his mistakes. I think we're all a bit jealous he had Gordy and Jed as mentors :)

    Echo 355T

Anyone running a 0.043 gauge bar on the 355? I'm guessing it's not needed, but if anyone has advice? I bought the 355t without the bar/chain out of disbelief at how bad the 2511t bar and chain were.

    Echo 355T

Thanks nutball! I have a feeling the quick muffler mod will suite my needs. An aftermarket air filter might be a good project for someone. The 2511t air filter seems like it could be improved, though I like how easy it is to clean.

    Echo 355T

do you change the port heights on them nutball? I’ve been pretty impressed with just the muffler mod on the 2511, but might do a little grinding, just cause I have some time right now.

    Echo 355T

About to purchase a 355t. Any updated thoughts on how they’re running? I’ve been pretty impressed with the 2511t with a muffler mod. I have a feeling the 355 will be pretty solid with a muffler mod…

    Silky shrinkflation

Nice to hear how others have attempted to sharpen handsaws. Not super fun, but I can make them sharper, just never like new. I get into a rhythm for a while, and then suffer, catching the file on the next tooth, which wrecks the file pretty damn quickly 😀

    Silky shrinkflation

Yeah, I was thinking maybe they did those special teeth for chip clearing, but then I took a look at a 1/2 meter long katanaboy and there were no odd angled teeth. I figure if you need chip clearing, you'd need it on a katanaboy? Anyhow, I'll have to look at some other handsaws, it could be part...
