As it goes had a sliding doors moment today.
As part of a bigger job, I had a 18/20 ft dead oak spar to take down today, surrounded by shrubs I put on the spurs and flip line and thought I’d run up and knock a few bits off.
Then for some reason I thought ‘stuff this, knock it over and to hell with the shrubs’
So I put a gob in and started the back cut, but as soon as it stared to lean over the whole lot uprooted and hit the deck.
Not big, wouldn’t have killed me, no real drama, but could have bust an arm or leg if I’d got up there and taken the ride to the ground.

After seeing hundreds of trees being felled, I've noticed a disturbing trend. Your typical residential, urban forester feller will stand by idly watching the tree go over, or even try to "steer" it as it falls. Conversely, every logger/forester I've ever seen will beat feet and get the heck out of Dodge as soon as the tree starts to move. There's no good reason to stick around near the stump when a tree is falling.

Can't figure out how to post it , Chinese Lazer Tree Cutting (vid comes right up) ... not to color anyone s opinion until they see it but I say it's so stupid that its really extra stupid. Probably expensive set up too.

That was posted around here somewhere. I think it has uses, but not really for tree cutting. It would be a good way to get rid of mylar balloons and other small nuisances from high tension lines.
