    New Stihl Power Pruners

My 20v DeWalt is nowhere near what the ancient HT-75 is...not enough chain speed. Works fine for a small branch or 3, then it stays in the shop. Ed

    Timber Framing

I'm building another Dutch workbench to have at the shop we're I'm working. Made some pegs tonight. "No!", said Br'er Rabbit. "Don't make me rive straight grain oak and drawshave it into octagonal pegs!". :/:

    How'd it go today?

Well, boss called tomorrow off. He left it up to me, but it was obvious he didn't want to work, and you don't have to twist my arm to stay home :^D That was the good news. The bad news is he suggested starting at 6am on Monday. That was left up to me also. That's absolutely sensible, but it...

What Did Ya'll Have For Dinner Tonight?

A can of beans and some cheese toast. Seriously, if you see this brand of beans around, grab a can to try. The jalapeño bacon my favorite I've had, but they've all been good. The Dr. Pepper was pretty sweet, but tit had a unique flavor. Aldi got these in after the pandemic. Everyone went nuts...

Crane accident 7/29/24 North Greenbush NY

I keep two copper rods in the truck for that purpose. And two short pieces of 1/2” CPVC for “handles” to prevent my grip from altering the reading. It works. I’ve done it many times.

Not a good way to end the day but it could’ve been much worse. This is the hazard with topping trees. The limb showed no signs of being hollow and was choked two feet below the old topping cut. It just crushed itself under the weight. It was a static pick and I was just about to start rotating...

Crane accident 7/29/24 North Greenbush NY

Before I left for work, I checked for the water line in my front yard. The witchy sticks did not react in any way. I guess I lack the correct aura.

    How'd it go today?

Well, 2 days rest seemed to help with the COVID. I had a small tree job (first in a few weeks) that I got done and now packing for South Carolina tomorrow. Thanks for the well wishes regarding the Covid, btw.

Took too much. Needed to have read Ger's book and noted the percentage to take to get a flat landing :). About 20%, iirc.

If I was to climb I’d flip and spur straight conifers and rope into limby things. But I’d always be nervous about my TIP.

À few minutes spent looking up a tree for potential stinging insect nests doesn’t hurt. I cannot see how flipping and spurring up a tree that size can be considered ‘slow’ Once all the gear is on it’s just a walk up the tree, what could be simpler?

Part of the reason I have never bothered trying a throw ball. I don’t need it much and it seems hassly…and both my rotator cuffs are junk and the thought of swinging upwards smarts. I’d rather go up there once ladder (if not very high) or bucket and be sure of what I’m getting. Wouldn’t work on...
