Got a call from the owner, reaching out locally. F250 and 15 Y.O. Grinder. Gone a week or so. Cops said they will likely hold on a bit, then reach out to tree companies. Heads up.

Preserving Figured/ Burl Wood and Wood Turning Blanks

Looking for advice. I'm finding a bunch of figured wood lately. Trying to preserve blocks cut from stumps, and burls. Maple has a lot of figure and burl. Madrona had root burl, which I haven't looked into yet, but will be on the look-out. Stump blocks have less obvious end-grain, and...

Trailer Arch for loading and unloading

Seems like Kyle has some great ideas about this. I run into being able to load my trailer at a jobsite, but then not being able to unload with a machine, as it's still at the job site. Some stuff can be tumbled off, some can't, as it isn't to be damaged, or too heavy to move. My saw miller...

Uber- outsouce a shuttle driver and vehicle.

Just a thought that might be useful. I had an extra truck at the jobsite. I'm Uber-ing at the moment. It's easy where available. An easily accounted-for expense, aside from a cash tip. Makes a vehicle shuttle a flexibly timed, single-employee operation. Works whether you plan to be short a...

    Removing stump grinder bolts...help

Heat and penetrating oil helped to break free most of the old Rayco style pockets to replace the teeth. Some bolt head's recessed hex heads rounded out. What to do? Do I need a cutting torch? Will that risk warping wheel?

    Grippy texture on chainsaw handles

I was a bit cold yesterday morning and was wearing Atlas gray thermal latex gloves. I found it sooo much harder to grip the smooth top-handle on the saw. Is it my imagination or would the top-handle and pistol-grips on rear handle saws be way better off with good friction built into them, rather...

How do I test my MS 660 magnum ignition module?

I don't seem to get a spark when pulling the starter cord with a spark plug in the boot and the electrode on the engine block. When I looked on eBay, there were aftermarket ignition modules for under $12. At the Stihl dealer, $135. Are the aftermarket modules crap or a deal?

New Engine for Stump Grinder...Need Recommendations.

My SuperJr 1620 ran a 25 hp replacement engine for a while, which is now done. I need to replace it. What do I need to know to replace the engine? Seems like the bolt pattern on the bottom is easy to figure, by measuring the 4 mounting slots and the current bolt spacing. What about the bolt-up...

Greasing the wheels of customer's kitchens...a random thought.

A funny thing about sharing anecdotes about the TH with customers is that it can be helpful at lunch time. Telling how in Japan you must bring towels and apologizes, and I think you can at least expect tea, and maybe snacks, sometimes get the food gifts flowing to the crew. (Grocery Outlet had...

Treatment advice for 4-5' DBH Doug-fir growing against concrete, 25% circum., please.

Been doing a bunch of Root Crown Excavation and Stem-Girdling Root pruning lately. This dropped into my lap today. Property owner type of guy with waterfront, fancy car. This looks like a meeting facility, residence. I was looking at pruning some low walnut limbs at this place and saw the...
