Why is it that every time an American doesn't eat half a cow and a ton of potatoes fried in enough oil to keep our houses warm for the winter is supposed to be on a diet?

I did a modified shepherd's pie.
Modified in that I put some Tofu in it and as part of my way of getting on top of the Eggplants in the tunnel, a lot of Eggplant.

I read somewhere that lentils were the stable food of the Roman armies.
It makes sense, actually, since they keep well and don't take up much room when dry.
