TIP Failure results in broken pelvis and broken L5

I broke my hand in a fight on the sidewalk after an altercation on the high school bus. I hit him in the eye socket and broke a bone in my hand. His eye wasn't purdy for awhile after that and I was in a cast. We were friends before the fight and then again after. We had something more to...

Moved out of the country is a possibility, but Jim's area is a long ways from a port. There is a big market for used equipment in China and developing countries, places like Sri Lanka. I heard that in those countries they are wizards at patching things up and getting them working again. There...

    The Official Happy Birthday thread!!!

You're a good example of how to live a life, Jerry. Much continued doing so. You've mentioned many friends, a very cool thing.

    How'd it go today?

With lots of rain this year, a bad time of year for mosquitos in the woods. Tiger balm works real good to stop itching after a bite, by the way. I keep a little jar of it by my bed.

I wonder if Mt Fuji is ever going to blow it's top again. There are still rumblings down deep. A few years aoe had a serious catastrophe on another mountain here that erupted. It caught a bunch of hikers by surprise, around ten dead or something. No lava but very hot violent smoke suddenly...

    Treehouse thread on Security

I wonder if they brought the rifle to issue as a weapon or for intimidation after breaking in, or were just carrying it for poaching or something. You say that they weren't expecting to find anyone home, or they didn't think that before they decided to bring a gun? I hope their parents levied...

I haven't met any crane ops that say that they hate tree work. They must not come to jobs. All the crane ops that I've met at work seem quite easy going about it. Nobody is ever reticent about discussing anything before a pick, but sometimes I seem to detect a slight yeah yeah yeah look in...

63 Years old, overweight, just returned from 5 day climbing class

Good post, Jed. If I had studied all my books when in school like I have "The Fundamentals", I'd probably be a brain surgeon or something. Perhaps I'd have walked on the moon! 8)

Notching a near-horizontal limb to swing it away from obstructions

Grain direction is a factor too, even the best bending wood species don't give a hoot about their reputation when the grain is off. Close to the union is where grain can much vary. In the habit of looking at grain when deciding on cuts is a good thing.

What Did Ya'll Have For Dinner Tonight?

Smoked duck is good too. Particularly with beer. Duck tends to be more oily than other fowl that gets consumed.

    In The News...

They should leave the confederate statues and put a disclaimer. "This statue represents the good guys". There were some, and equally can be said, some bad guys fighting for the north's side.
