It's been a while since I cut trees for a living but last night a buddy sent me this picture. It is from the first job I ever did with him. A big corner lot with a half dozen camphor trees, they were bulldozing the house and needed all the drees dropped. The climber couldn't do it all in one day...
Is that you or your dad? I know your dad is the main climber but based on some of your Facebook posts it is obvious you have been doing a lot of the climbing as well.
The FB groups I'm on are all dominated by 20-30 year old climbers on SRT and mechanicals. Most young climbers these days start out with mechanical hitches. Couldn't tie a taut line, blake's or VT if their life depended on it.
Wow! In the USA a regular license is good for up to 13 tons combined weight and up to 5 tons trailer weight. My work truck is considered small and it has a GVWR of 13,000 lbs (truck weighs 8000 lbs) and a 10 yard dump box on it. 5 yards/3.5 tons is nothing.
Placing/leaning stuff on a vehicle has been a pet peeve of mine for 35 years! Way back to my 20's when I had my lawn business and a new 1988 pickup, it pissed me off when people leaned rakes or shovels on my truck. Just 2 months ago I punctured a tire on a trailer because some moron leaned a...
If you will notice, nobody has been able to reply to any post in this section for the last 2 years. Carl got tired of the political arguing (in a subforum specifically for politics) and closed it to everyone. :|:

Super tight access job today and my Avant 528 showed his stuff! Had the tree out and loaded in under 3 hours, and I even was able to rip the root ball out. As you can see we had very little room to work but it was just enough. My Avant carried out every piece except about a half bucket of...
I never cared for the idea of dropping trees with a cut at ground level unless you were harvesting logs. I have always preferred dropping the tree from a standing position so I have more control and the ability to move quickly if necessary. Can't get out of the kill zone quickly if you're on...
Today's job, I didn't get pics until we were 2/3 done. 2 big oak trees came down in a back yard. Took out the pool and one lead on the first tree hit the house. At this point we had the first tree out and were working on the second. Started at 9:30 and were out of there at 1:30.
He brought his...
I don't run saws much these days, mostly sit on my ass and move a steering wheel and lever. Yesterday I cleaned up a pile of stump grindings from a massive oak removal the crew did a couple weeks ago. I packed my 10 yard dump truck and could have taken another yard or two if I had room. Took...
As most of you know I no longer do tree work, at least as far as running saws or flying bucket trucks. These days I just sit on my loader and move shit for other people. This morning I cleaned up a big mess of stump grindings from a big crane removal we did a couple weeks ago. Absolutely stuffed...
Earlier this week a got a rope set in an old oak in my yard that needs to come down. Severe crown dieback aggravated by an old trunk wound caused by fire. It had a slight back lean so I didn't feel comfortable wedging it, and I needed a second person to drive the truck and pull it while I cut...
What size Avant? I love my little 528. almost 500 hours and so far I have been able to self extract using the extending boom whenever I've gotten into sticky situations.
