    How'd it go today?

My old buddy Mike, who I met over 30 years ago when he was my foreman at Davey, recently broke his finger getting it smashed like that. A few years ago he moved back to Ohio and got a job driving a big dump truck. Well on one load his tailgate latch got stuck so he went back to unstick it. Not...

    How'd it go today?

I'd rather haul wood off than dice it up for firewood 95% of the time.

    How'd it go today?

Yes, D1105. But it's fine. It was blowing a bit of smoke from the residual oil in the cylinders and head but ran smooth.

    How'd it go today?

Your reply and several others, along with a very good diesel mechanic all saying the same thing, I decided to listen. This morning I went back with the correct tools to clear the cylinders again. Took me about 15-20 minutes and it fired up! Blew a lot of smoke and I had to go buy 5 gallons of...

    How'd it go today?

I have read enough horror stories online to know to immediately shut off the engine. I was reaching for the key as I was going over but couldn't get it. Had it shut off within a second or two of stopping. Unfortunately it was on its side for an hour before we got it upright. That's when all the...

    How'd it go today?

New engine is on its way. $7715 delivered to a local business address. The guy I was working for is arranging for a crane to lift my loader off the side of the hill and set it on my trailer so we don't flip it again trying to load it.

    How'd it go today?

Well I didn't have enough patience this morning. I didn't have all the tools I needed to pull the glow plugs so I decided to try and bump it over. It had sat 16 hours. When I hit the key it went "Thunk". An hour and a half later after pulling the glow plugs and clearing the cylinders I tried to...

    How'd it go today?

You're correct, it has hydraulic motors and not a hydrostatic transmission. Avants are not towable in any way, shape or form.

    How'd it go today?

The loader was very stable there after we got it back on its wheels. It was further up the hill where it was too steep. Since it is hydrostatic drive you can't tow or push it so it is staying right there until tomorrow when I will go through the process of getting it fired up again. Then I can...

    How'd it go today?

Well I finally rolled my Avant today after 2 years and 1035 hours. No real damage, just some scratches and a cracked rear engine cover. They say you never really know where the line is until you cross it... Was working with a buddy's crew trimming out an apartment complex in Clermont, FL (very...

Now that your boys are working out here, you have a perfect excuse. Bring it on! I even have a spare bedroom set up.

Yes, another friend posted her full name (linked her profile) on my FB post. Seems we have 10 mutual friends (including you).

    How'd it go today?

Finished the lakefront clearing job today. 3 big loads of weeds and dirt in my truck. One load almost didn't dump, and I know the truck dumps 10K lbs easily. Anyway, a great day. I found a new cheap dump site even if it is 20 miles away from my house. Still closer than the county dump and way...

As long as the machine is making you money, it's great.

    How'd it go today?

Today I got to pick on all my buddies with Avants using the BMG style grapples. Yet another job I can do with my root rake grapple that they can't do. :P Root raking out this lakefront. This was about 2:30-3. I didn't finish but only have a couple hours left in the morning. Made good money, too.

    How'd it go today?

Nope, insurance doesn't cover tree removals unless it is on the house or other covered structures. They don't pay for property maintenance. Never have, never will. I tend to give very little time or effort to people who think their homeowner's insurance is going to pay the bill when it obviously...

    How'd it go today?

Actually the box is in front of the axles so no spray from the trailer tires. And the truck tires are farther away and on the other side of the mud flaps. Rain falls down, not up. So it stays dry and fairly clean. And raising the bed a foot or two with a full load isn't an issue either.

    How'd it go today?

I did that on a couple different dump trailers. I kept rakes and shovels there, along with an extra hitch insert since all my trailers were pintle hitches and I worked a lot with a couple guys who didn't use pintle hitches. Sometimes they would go dump the trailer while I was still in the...

    How'd it go today?

You are getting near the age that moving into operating equipment will absolutely make you more money than climbing. Your most productive climbing days are behind you, sad to say. You should absolutely take advantage of the opportunity to learn how to run a crane. you can do that and make bucks...
