Snowcats are sorta fun...I had occasion to run one a few times, a USFS unit my Forest borrowed for some winter work collecting grafting scion. They are not so much fun on very narrow roads with sidehill drifts, in steep country :|:. Snowmobiles generally covered ground a whole lot faster, but...

Iron is awfully nice to have in the bag when nothing else will do it near as well.

Fair enough. You are satisfied with what you have and there is no reason for you to change that @cory. Certainly, none that I can offer beyond what I have already said. What works best for me is only that...best for me, not necessarily for anyone else.

Yes, that is what you and all others must do. But it is far from the best position from an ergonomic work point of view, imo.

Unfortunately, not to the best of my knowledge. Again, if anyone knows differently, please let me know.

I see them oem and a few US sources, yup very spendy. I was hoping someone had found a chinesium version, like I see for most bigger Stihl pro saws. For my level of use, that would fit the ticket, if it existed. So far, I don't see them.

@lxskllr Just visualize cutting generally horizontal from left to right with the belly of the bar. It is so much easier to just slide your left hand over to the wrap side (right on the saw) as you move the saw into position to make the cut, either limbing or making a face heading left or a back...

For sure. I barely tolerate my little 361 with the standard wrap, cost being the only thing that has kept me from replacing the oem handle. For some odd reason the Chinese et al have not produced a wrap handle for this model. If anyone knows differently, please give me a heads up. A 3/4...

It's true that you would need a shorty scrench for some wrap handles, though not all. Never occurred to me that a shorty might be unsatisfactory, but if it is for you then it is.

I dunno about a video. I could look around I reckon :). But your gripe about messing with the clutch cover??? It does not happen. The wrap handle is shaped to accommodate that need. No different to work with than a standard handle. BTW, nice to read you, my friend. @lxskllr

Never in a million years would you see that in my part of the world :). Maybe in some US ultra-urban areas...but I stay clear of that sort of place on general principle :D.

For keeping your body in the best ergonomic position, having the choices the full wrap gives is worth it almost always, to me. One prime example that any cutter can visualize...just limbing a felled tree, or parts there of...it is so much the better way.

That size, 11/64", is available iirc. Stihl makes them, probably others as well.

I was specifically looking at the color of the ground surface of the side plate in your second pic. That may or may not be accurately represented in the photo. But if it did get hot and that is general to the whole chain, then that could affect the temper and thus the wear the teeth provide...

Hard to say for sure, but looking at the pic of the husky chain, that one cutter looks like it might have been burned a bit in it's manufacturer's sharpening.

Knotty, you simply cannot claim a great number of "practical" climbs in your Pheonix apartment complex trees while at the same time saying, "I've never pretended to be a tree worker."...it just does not fly here. Tree work is what defines practical in the minds of most of us.

Or maybe you're not really understanding the complicated machinations one must manage when you are working a tree, rather than playing at it. This is not a slap at you, but it is a reminder that for all your experience, it still is theoretical rather than practical, as @Maximalist so clearly...
