    Wood stove heat

The bark sure does tho, but usually it falls off when it's dry.

    Wood stove heat

Yup, just creosote forming on the cold coils, pretty much expected unless it's had time to burn completely before it hits them. Pretty much why they used gasification for boilers, the tars are cracked into co and h2 so they burn clean.

    Wood stove heat

Yeah i was singing the osha violations song as i did it, but it worked pretty well. I would love to see how it does a full tote, that'll be the golden ticket!

    Wood stove heat

Well since my life is basically a dumpster fire and I'm no where close to organized, i didn't have a bunch of seasoned firewood handy. I've been getting wood from my buddies wood pile, where he's been dumping logs for years, but that pile is pretty picked thru by now. He dropped a dead locust...

    Wood stove heat

Locust doesn't pop much usually, but it does a bit sometimes, kinda depends on the log. Hedge is like a sparkler, but oh so hot, and locust can pop too if it gets a bunch of air so you kinda gotta be careful loading sometimes, a small price to pay. If I'm doing hedge or locust that wants to pop...

I always considered the 55 gallon drum stove to be a cheaper shop stove, but they're awesome since you are making it. With economy in mind if it's inside (which it obviously will be) you can use vegetable oil as a heat resistant paint, it'll turn black and cover the steel with a rustproof...

    Wood stove heat

Do the double one to maximize the heat output, you can also run pipes thru the top one as a heat exchanger with a blower and it'll damn near run you out. I had one we built that used a horizontal one and then a vertical one saddled on in the back that worked great, we even had a waste oil drip...

    Wood stove heat

I really want to add a bigger fan on mine, i did a temp check on the heated air and the temperature difference was enough that if i moved more air it would pump out even more heat.

"Bout time you fired up my heat window dad"

    Wood stove heat

Fired mine up this weekend too, no sense in paying for heat!

    Wood stove heat

I'm working on that.... summer project i hope to try out. I'm thinking of building a small batch torrifier, and then pressing little logs, maybe even a pelletizer or a briquetter too for some other projects. If i get it working I'll be sharing obviously, drawings and all

    Wood stove heat

This is the first week we haven't been burning at least at night, it had been down in the 30s at night but now it's in the 60s. I was doing really good with pretty much zero buildup, but the damn tack welds on my chimney cap broke off and so i had to sweep it a bit more this year since i didn't...

    Wood stove heat

Well i finally cleaned my chimney since using my insert for months now, and it was a waste of time. Maybe got a half gallon of crap, that's it. Good to know tho, so that's a once a year task now.

    Wood stove heat

Minus the air blowing cooling the sides of the flue pipe
  19. Tree09

    Wood stove heat

A "jacketed" stove pipe would be inefficient compared to one of the manufactured heat exchangers that would come with a ul listing. I don't like the idea of building this in stovepipe if that's what you were thinking, inspection and co leaking would be issues. Also you will have to watch your...

    Wood stove heat

I don't always need a beer to have a good time either, but it efn helps! Hahahahaha I'm excited to use my new chipper crane when I'm splitting here, I'm like that already  seriously tho, depending on what you got here hand splitting is sometimes mashing yourself against wall. I've even...
