What if you put screws or nails thru so the head was below the surface and just a bit of the fastener point was exposed? Little spikes to bike into the trunk, like caulks.

@SeanKroll a while back I posted about using plentiful, handy dead dry oak stems just the right diameter to fit in a kerf and keep from pinching while bucking. Works a treat, like little rollers. Recently it occurred to me that they could be used for chunking down like this as well.

I can be pretty cowboy and mad scientist experimental, but I would have cowboy’d that differently. Maybe will stir up a hornets nest but more likely a bunch of eyerolls 😆
