Momentum/ speed helps poor hinges. Pull hard and fast enough and the tree goes where you pull it. We weakened and ripped down a horrible maple against the lean with a small skidder's skookum winch. No hinge. Too rotten.

Touch it once! Questions for learning, not arguing. If all your rigging, cutting, and weight estimation is correct, what gets you? Bad wood you can’t see? It seems like to lose one over backwards or sideways you’d have to cut your hinge off or it fail. On that note, I did cut a hinge off...

See now your problem is waiting for them to step up. They ain’t going to unless pushed. A polite “git your ass up the tree, I’m tired of waiting on you little bitches” is what’s needed. That kind of encouragement directly attacks the male egos subconscious desire to be alpha and triggers the...

@davidwyby Super tight parking on a small island with 42 houses jammed in. The little trailer (5k axle) was good for chipping into, from both parcels without unhooking the chipper, hitching the trailer, moving the trailer, unhooking reconnecting to the chipper blah blah. Crash pad for...

PITA afternoon. Whole tree is coming down but I took out the two hardest sections today. Lake property with a ton of obstacles. Haul out goes from steep to a tight 47” gate and then past multiple A/C units and sheds and generators then to another 48” wide area between two retaining walls. Tired...

The bar might reach thru, but in order to get the bar 90° to the lay to make a face, my arms would need to reach that point. @Marc-Antoine no pinch yet. The sides support. I have always matched the back cut to the plunge but it might be beneficial or less chair prone to step the back cut...

    Firewood

I've been working on our wood. We will go through 4 cords easily between 3 stove, 2 houses, where one burns regularly, 2 burn continuously most of the deep winter. I never measure. Thankfully, 2 have large fireboxes in the big house. One is a small fireboxfor a small house, though plenty...

Pros and Cos of various friction hitches in the trees

I helped Roger B with a sequoia about 15 years ago. The 40'er was a help for taking the stairs. I think it didn't turn into regular flipping up on spurs for a long while. Easier to strand on branches fir a while,, maybe the first 100'.

Pros and Cos of various friction hitches in the trees

Sounds like you want a multiscender friction hitch, most friction hitches are only able to grab for use while ascending. The Sticht, WLR, and the Synergy X are the multiscenders I know, some others will work for awhile, but bind up with use. One handed slack tending binds up faster than...
