Yes. I do this same thing to prevent barberchairs and to slide off sizable/ machine-handleable/ millable maple logs. All kerfs, no face. Basically leaving a square/rectangular peg of central holding wood that gets 'Coos Bay'-ed off.

We took the ferry across Mobile Bay from Dauphin Island to Ft. Morgan. While in route, our youngest daughter texted me that she was out on the bay as well on the Sea Lab boat. They were catching and tagging sharks. Our courses passed close enough that we could see her waving at us from her boat.

I scaffold knot into a biner with keyhole gate, not ledge gate. Fusion D steel. wesspur Half hitches ( or marls on brittle pieces) take the strain of the biner. If a piece breaks apart, marls cinch onto the wood. If the marl breaks the piece, you can get a knot.
