    Contract climber rate?

Kids these days who call themselves "contract climbers" a lot of times aren't worth half the price that they are asking for, don't have the insurance or the experience and are more a liability than an asset on the job. I know, I have worked with enough of them. Yes, So true. Just cause you...

    Contract climber rate?

So true. Can not play w others. Contract Climber is such a deep black hole. Though I've seen so much of the universe thru contract climbing or travel climbing or gypoclimbing :) I've met many more people and experiences by travel climbing than staying at the same same same same same same...

    Hiking Thread

I took a little hike today behind the sawmill. 18" of snow on top of 8" of crust. Very challenging. About an hour, and I didn't drop dead.

    Mentoring New Climbers

I ran an Asplundh crew for 2-1/2 years. I climbed alongside my crew frequently. I got very bored just watching.

Brilliant! Laying a tree down gently

I tell people routinely that I like to squeeze the trigger as much as possible to get the wood on the ground, using as little hand handling or rigging/ extra tools as sensible. Binding means pulling extra gear from the truck, hauling to the tree, install, removal from a log that may not need...

    Mentoring New Climbers

That was always a method I employed. Not exclusively, but often. For one reason, it helps me notice what minor missteps the student may be making, that are difficult to see from the ground. For another, just standing and watching can get very boring...and makes for a sore neck :).

I think the back cut is asking for a chair. I’d go all face. Pull or prop up first to avoid face pinch since we can’t all be @gfberanek

    Jed Walters

I don’t have Jed’s number but I do have numbers of old friends and family member who are no longer with us. Those numbers will be in there forever or till I lose the phone. What’s that old saying? people only truly die when their name is spoken for the last time. I like to think of my mobile...

Brilliant! Laying a tree down gently

I agree with Kenny. Use a back cut, just put in a thick enough hinge, AND secure the trunk with a load binder strap, even if you bore cut, or you risk barber chairing. Yes, this is really hard to do on short, fat diameter trees.

    Jed Walters

I was just thinking of Jed this morning and trying to figure out how something like this could have happen to someone like him? Then I realized that I would never find a reason and just have to accept that bad things happen to good people every day, like the saying goes. I am just so happy to...

    Contract climber rate?

I get paid between $600-$800 dollars a day to contract climb. I carry both liability and workers comp on myself. I bring all my own equipment (both climbing and rigging) along with 40 years of experience in the business. I am also an ISA Certified Arborist, Master Rigger and can write legal...
