I use JB Holdway’s idea of using a golf ball as a file handle. Works great.

I’m talking about the generic one that comes in any sharpening set you see on Amazon…. I can hand file…. Well I think I can I just want to see how my chain compares to one used with the guide…. And I just flat out can’t file the little 1/4” pico stuff on my pole saw so there’s that.

    How'd it go today?

Possibly just frostnip. Right thumb and index are tingling. In more exciting news, I had to run the mill for a few minutes yesterday. It looks like that ball bearing in the belt tensioner was making all the racket. A pretty easy fix, other than the shroud making it difficult to put...

Spiral cut files removed the need to twist, I believe. A properly tensioned or tight- for- sharpening chain is important.

Italian made Oregon 511A. Looks like I have three thin grinding wheels (smaller pitch chain), one medium wheel ( I think it was sized for 73LP) and a new raker wheel still in cardboard.

    How'd it go today?

It was a pic posting test. I needed the most random pic I had and well what’s more random than an ear of corn on a tree forum?

Boss uses the fancy file holding jigs. I cram a file into an oak stick and go at it like the heathen I am. Ive learned that not everyone can hand file, but thankfully, I can. Follow the angles already present, and use your free hand to hold the tooth you're working on to prevent chatter...

To see if I could post. There hadn't been any activity in about 12 hours.
