    Borer “trap tree”

After a while you will hate cutting ash, dry, dusty, brittle wood that shatters like glass, jamming up the chipper at every feed cycle. I can still smell the dust.

    Borer “trap tree”

Year 4 of the EAB invasion was slowed by a polar vortex. -40° really put the hurt on that little bug and good for it, but damn was it cold.

    Machining/welding/millwright…molten metal

Pretty heavy duty. Bad weld cause failure? Looks like it could use a bigger engine and pump for the size of the cylinder.

That's a thick chunk of metal to bend like that.

yeah, from what I’d read, I don’t think EAB was stoppable. But maybe the gold spotted oak borers out here. The green log thing is a good idea. I’ve cut down healthy eucs, stored the logs in my yard, and found the cambium eaten out later when I went to make firewood. I guess I need to cover...

EAB trees are a large percentage of the treework around here. It's not if, it's when they get it.

    Borer “trap tree”

EAB came hard and fast here in my area. I not so so sure trap trees would have worked. It was like the entire county blew up at once, dead ash everywhere. Very few left.

I've seen green log traps for Ips beetles in pines. They solar cook the logs after the beetles burrow into the log by covering with clear or black plastic.

Euc broke a customer’s mighty big old heavy splitter. Coincidentally, the Mike Abatti in the news.

The New Offical Mutts of the House thread

I like most decently behaved dogs, we had outside dogs as a kid, and my mom had a good little poodle. Unfortunately, we are all allergic to anything that sheds and getting a dog house trained etc., and having it cared for while we are often gone is probably not worth it. We dog sat a golden...

Might have found a use for palms

About the only way to get rid of palm “wood” is the landfill. It doesn’t burn well at all. Maybe if ripped into tiny pieces. I think it’s hard on chippers. I have some good sized trunks I’ve been staring at trying to figure out what to do with them. I ripped one into some slabs, maybe to...

    Bridge lengths

Have you considered an adjustable bridge? I have tied a shorter bridge for spar work, but found it to be unnecessary.

Yes, Burnham, avoiding the Circle of Death. Coos Bay. Deep sapwood cuts. Bore out the holding wood, leading a trigger/ back-strap. Gut the hinge. Golden triangle.

Just attaching both ends of that lanyard to the center point/bridge on his harness would have kept him from getting squished. But of course, he'd need to have assessed the barberchair risk accurately to make that decision.
