Those are great old beasties. Far too many have been kicked to the curb in my part of the world due to not meeting EPA regs when a house changes hands, per local law.

The tree doesn't really mind the house... it can ru it for years and not worry.

If the human wants it visually balanced for the human's sake, then sure small cuts. Less than 20-25% crown removal. Less is more, sometimes.
