Some form of over pressure relief valve, or at least that is a common component at the pressure tank.

It is an air volume control. It adds air to your water tank to prevent it from becoming "waterlogged." About 20 bucks.

I see reading back a bit you have a bladder tank. Did you add that recently? With a bladder tank you should not even need a AVC. The flying saucers copper line goes to the side of the pump, right?

So what keeps the pump from running everytime you turn on a tap? Or does this tank serve as a pressure tank too? I guess it would.

The bladder tank doesn't lose air into the water like a non bladder tank does.

I think I am starting to understand. This tank has to let air in and out so that the water can flow. Sorta like shotgunning a beer?

bingo! weird I could remember the cost but not what it was.

I added the bladder tank when I re-ran the well 2 years ago. The tubing runs into the top of the pump housing.

this could explain why I get a bit of air in the lines form time to time I'm guessing?

So I should be able to remove the control and just block off the openings?

Yeah, I think that's a redundant bit now that you're running a bladder tank.

Water is not compressible so the volume of air does the compressing and pushes the water out once a tap is opened. Also reduces the need for the pump to turn on everytime a tap is opened for a short time.

Yep, thats what I thought. Just never seen a tank without a bladder in it.
