grapple truck help

At least its big, you see a lot of small grapple trucks for some reason... If you have it you are going to want to LOAD it, the more capacity the better and longer it will last it seems.

Thats one of my concerns with the single axle. If it gets full I dont want to deal with the DOT of weight issues.

Theres a whole lot of paper paper work to step into CDL territory if your not already there. CDL's obviously, medical cards, pre employment and random drug and alcohol testing, background and driving records, truck inspections, crane certification, post trip written inspections, etc. Go into your local federal ODOT office and talk to them if you don't already have the headaches

Id go with a rear mount and tandem axles.
The debate about dumping vs. using the loader to offload is moot. It only takes 10 minutes to offload a full truck. Granted it only takes 2 minutes to dump a load, the payoff with a rear mount is the extra reach you get. You can load from either side of the truck and the rear of the truck. With a cab mount you can only load form the sides of the truck.

Check out the Serco loaders, IMO they're the best. I am biased, as we run 2 of them. Both rear mounts.

Heres our oldest one (the one pictured in the rear above), before paint and a new box.

Plus its free to dump brush and logs here so...

Wow, that is amazing that you can dump for free.

And you are right, that would be cool, get it on the ground by climbing or with crane rental, move it with a wheel loader, then grapple it. No bucket, no chipper.

For a non-dumper, how do you get the considerable amount of small debris out that would accumulate fairly quickly? Shovel it into the grapple?

Tophopper, no chippers at all for you?

Oh yeah. We run a half dozen chippers also. But whenever possible we eliminate the labor and let the loader do the work.

For the non-dumpers.... to get the small debris out, you can either scoop it out with the loader, or put a small door 18" wide by 18" high and sweep them out the hole.

I would think a rear mount non-dumper is the ticket. There is a large CO. down here that has a Mack rear mount and has helped me out a few times and all I can say is, WOW!

The only reason I would consider a front mount dump is if I was going to pull double duty and use it to haul dirt/rock as well.

Rear mount the grapple on a u shaped pedestal.
There is a setup already available on a big truck( and big bucks !), showed here some months ago. But I don't know exactly where to dig to find it again.

An upside down u shape, more like an n shape really.

Walking floor wont handle brush too well, ejector system will but its slower than unloading with the grapple imo. FWIW I ran a grapple truck and no chipper for about 3 years, bought a chipper last year for various reasons but I do like the grapple truck model. If I had free dumping for brush again I would probably go back to it.

These are nice, just crazy money. Rear mount and dump. Guy down the street has one.
