Climbing - Grapple

No idea never been on one, rope runner either for that matter. Been around both and have had the opportunity just love what I climb on so no need.

Nah, I'm with Joel. If you have ground help that is. I don't like 'em just holding my climbing line though, tie it off real good, just in case. Those big swings hurt don't they Jay? I am curious about your ebay grapple though Mistahbenn, looks pretty solid.

Right. It's what Tuebor and Deva are on about. People use them to set a line into a neighboring tree for transfers. I think that the Ascending The Giants guys did a long traverse across a bunch of oaks, like measures in fractions of a mile or something, maybe 1/4 mile or something, using traversing tricks for rope setting rather than the type of grappling hook most are talking about.

I use a hook that BIGTWIG made for me, it is a simple J style. The advantage of the j style is that you can twist the rope to make it spin to either catch or release a limb.
 
I bought the New tribe brapnel when I went to climb Sequoias second time.
I must say it was a big help in those fat trees. Didn't use it to transfer from tree to tree but sometimes the next branch on a giant Sequoia can be quite a distance sideways from the one, you're perched on.
