Are we no longer HARDCORE?

Some of us were uncomfortable with the connotation. It may be unfortunate, but the term screams "pornography" in many circles. Butch generously accepted several elders requests to change it.

Uhhh...not the way I see it, but my perception could well be colored by the accusatory tone adopted by a couple of idiots in my recent past. Though I always disliked that header, for the off-color connotation.

That simply isn't true, Jay. A good reputation is a very difficult thing to acquire and keep...only takes one animosity-driven talker to hurt ones rep with people who don't have personal experince with you.

Ok, I understand your reasoning, Burnham. I guess what I was driving at is that given some circumstances, it could be a never ending thing if we allow ourselves to be victims of other peoples opinions, when what is prompting that is hearsay or some concept other than the people actually knowing us themselves.....even based upon a word. I wouldn't be so thick as to also not agree that in some situations it could be a concern. To what degree do we want to walk on egg shells for other people? Sometimes I believe that it becomes a relevant question. Some folks will always be quick to condemn others when they don't know what the real deal is, and often prompted by the strife in their own life, or just generally from some weird desire to be mean. Kid's stuff, and catering to that bs could drive you crazy if you were a person a lot in the public's eye.

I recall back in the Nam the word "Hardcore" was used by the 101rst Airborne Infantry. Screaming Eagle's. Beautiful patch. Some troops in the 101 airborne sported the insignia with the word "hardcore" on it. Officially it didn't fly with the Brass, but in the Nam I never seen it banned. It was unofficially accepted.

So my connotation with the word is, Mean ass killing machines. Hardcore.

And then too, like B said, pornography is ranked right in with the word.

Either way all intense connotations.

Never crossed my mind hard core and porn.
Hard core should just mean aggressive, fast, heavy, truth hurts that sort of thing.

I went thru the same thing with Treepedo, parts of the world only could see the negative
and really its true meanings are tree torpedo or tree child.
Either way, keep on!

I have a friend that recently passed away, a fine professional photographer that received high acclaim. A couple National endowment for the arts, among other fellowships. He got accepted by the porn industry in Southern California, and was let in at many of their shoots. His interest wasn't in the sexual orientation of what goes on, but more in the rather strange environment where the sets combined with the activity that was taking place, or already did, or was about to, the locations combined with the purpose for which people were there. It tends to be something beyond the periphery of our normal everyday context when thinking about porn, whether we may notice it or not, and not just a world of lust as porn is usually seen as. Also he wanted to show the mundane side of the industry, people just doing a job. Many of his photos had little sexual content, the actors sitting around or whatever. Also he wanted to show some humor that he saw in it. He came to know a large number of people in the industry, and used them in straight modeling shoots as well. Larry was an interesting guy with a wide concept of imagery that he felt was valuable to reveal. It is fun to see some of the girls in there normal dress without makeup, and how they were turned into creatures of fantasy. You would see what appeared to be different people that were transformed.

Here is one of his shots, one of the funnier ones. Hardcore.... Reprinted without permission. :/:

I always liked the header. I kind of thought of it like Butch described. And I felt privileged to be part, for it. However, I always had the porn thing in the back of my mind. I have to respect Burnham and i see his points. I assume he is wiser than I am so I think it was a good decision to drop it.
