selling logs is complex , one thing pops up here quite a bit is straight through. Cutting logs is complex , cut for grade or cut for pieces ... Not sure of other places but when there's a high demand for a particular species (right now Ash) instead three or four prices depending on grade diameter and length , Mill sets a bottom accept spec and sets a straight through price. if a bad deal nobody would take it. Let's the choppers cut for pieces and goes quicker ...

Another new , the mill that's Hardwood only , opened Matt operation which was great way to sell some pretty shitty logs. Now they buy Hemlock at a straight through price for Matt Stock. (A plus as Hemlock here is a tough buck , the big ones are many times Shakey) Yeah Cory here it's "Chopping by the Thou" as opposed to "Falling for Scale" out West.

Yup, I learned that in Maine.

Good info re mats, mats can be very big bidness

Easy really , keep them long and the quality grade is easy to hit ... Something like 10" DIB small end w One Clear Face. We sent some bigs w heart rot and got better shekel than firewood.
