I have been pretty regimented in using sinus irrigation. For the past 2 months I put it on the back burner. Starting getting alot of congestion, got back on my routine.
All is well now. I have pretty bad alleregies, rinsing seems to help keep them at bay during the spring. I tend to feel better overall as well.

Do you partake?

Not I. Never had any allergies until the last year or two. Now I get hit with seemingly random symptoms about every week or so. Itchy watery eyes, runny nose, congestion... Probably some kind of food allergy, but I haven't pinpointed it yet.

I suffer terribly with it in the past few years. Beconase seems to work, 2 shots up each nostril every morning. How do you rinse your sinuses?

I'm allergic to work, but I've found if I can drag my lazy self out of bed and get to work, the day gets better by-and-by.

Never had a problem with allergies, but it seems that as of the last several years, Imma gonna get an ear infection that settles in one or both ears, rendering me near-deaf for a week or so. Any suggestions for curing/preventing THAT?

As to sinus irrigation, have any of you tired taking a big mouthful of salt water and blowing it out your nose? Seems to me it would be simpler than irrigating, and would serve the same purpose. (No I have never tried it, but I definitely would before trying to pour it up my nose).:|:

I'm allergic to work too. A large dose of free cash works wonders for that one.

I do have a marvelous cure for ear ache. warm some olive oil or rape oil up by standing a shotglass with a bit of the oil in a larger glass of boiling water. Lie on your side, and get an obliging family member to fill the offending ear up with the oil as hot as you can take. Be careful, as the ear is sensitive. I use a dropper for doing the kids ears.

Poke and pull the outside of the ear to get the oil right in. Lie for ten minutes, and then with a cloth against the ear, turn over and let the oil run out.

Not only will this work wonders for keeping the ear clean and treating infection, the hot oil is extremely soothing for the pain.

I tried that just two weeks ago, but once the ear was full, I plugged it with a cotton ball. Maybe I should have let it drain? I heard next to nothing out of that ear for nigh on two weeks. I could talk on the phone, but only if it was pressed hard to my ear, and the volume was turned up. And when I talked, it sounded like I was shouting in my own ear. Nerve-wracking!

My bro and sister inlaw swear by that neti pot deal .The thought of snorting water up my nose doesn't appeal to me though .

Ha ! I am one in maybe 10 thousand that was born with what doctors call a polidoidal gill clift .This is a large pore right near the ear which is connected to the eustachian tube some how .

Both sides at one time became infected and a big cyst erupted which need to be cut off and left kind of a long scar .It was weird for about 2 years I could blow smoke out what appeared to be my ear .I got a lot of milage out of that one .Ornery ya know .

My ears plug up once in a while. Rubbing alcohol helps break down the wax buildup and displaces water (which breeds bacteria). No, it doesn't burn. It feels just like water. A half capful in each ear after getting out of the shower does the trick.

Sounds to me you were born to be a submariner :D

My ears used to get plugged with wax about every year in my early 20s. Every time I went to the DR. they had a different technique to clean it out, the worst was pouring hydrogen peroxide in my ear, felt like a thousand maggots eating my brain. It was all I could do not to shake my head like a hound sprayed by a skunk. My buddies mom said she just lets the shower water run into each ear every time she showered so I tried it. Can't remember how long ago that was but it has been close to 10 years with no trouble i'd guess

There was a recent study that showed nasal irrigation as the only treatment that had any real effect on the common cold, everything else just ameliorated the symptoms.

And THAT almost sounds naughty...but good.:D

However, to some it might seem to be sarchasm (The gulf between the author of sarcastic wit and the person who doesn't get it.);)

My world is either wood dust in the shop, or wood chips coming out of a chainsaw,. I'm resigned to sweeping it up about a quarter of my existence and my boogers can be hideous. I can look a short distance to the west sometimes and the sky is yellow from the Sugi tree forest pollen. I hardly ever wear a mask and I don't think that I have ever had an allergy symptom yet, not counting running Ebony or Rosewood through the table saw. Sometimes my wife starts sneezing when I walk in the door from work. I usually play dumb.

I didn't use to get poison oak either.
