I have about a dozen eye and eye hitch cords.

Beeline, ultra tech, Icetail, tenex, and OP.

Beeline was my fave by far, but lately I find myself always grabbing my OP 8mm cords that Nick made for me.

Stuff is AMAZING, tough, doesn't burn out and runs smooth.

anybody else flying this stuff? if not, you should try it :)

Is it a double braid polyester? I've been using New England Sta-Set for many years, just another brand of double braid polyester. It only melts on new rope because the coating gets hot. But once you get your rope broken in then it's fast and smooth.

I had some OP that got brand new and I absolutely hated it!! Couldn't get on with it at all. One of my mates sent me some that was spliced up and had been used and its brilliant stuff. I think it takes a bit of time to "bed in" and then its great.

Brian, OP is composed of a polyester/aramid sheath and a polyester core, the cover is supposed to be highly heat resistant, like bee line and HRC.
I tried the 10 mm version a while back and liked it but think HRC is better. I tested it to see if I could get it to glaze by burning out of a couple of trees and was able to. I was using a ring and ring FS and go about 220lbs w/o gear and saw.
It's good stuff but pricey. I prefer HRC. Maybe the new stuff is better.

I have some bee line but I've never tried it yet. I don't have 3 hours of saddle time in the last two years anyway. :(

And as always, you have to consider what line you are running the hitch cord on. Each combination varies. Ice tail and ultra tech work better than bee line for my weight on PI line. Bee line works great as does HRC and Bail Out on my 1/2" arbor master for my weight. Many variations and then throw in wraps and braids on the prussic...:|:
Once you have something dialed in... it's the shitz nit for you but may not be for another guy/gal. So many factors in the variables.

use the 8mm for OP, 10mm is not as nice, works great on my Secret Weapon though :)

I hated it at first but after it beds in as Tommy says, it's hard to beat. I have a spliced piece from the treemagineers and a few lengths that I cut to purpose.

I like my piece of 8mm. Its a tie between that and beeline. The op is a bit firmer and I prefer that.

I have an old piece of 10mm OP and I don't like it at all. It seems to have stiffened up and doesn't like to grab reliably.

I loved my piece of 8mm OP, but it got lost somewhere about a year ago. Haven't replaced it yet, because I've been loving HRC. Now that I know how to splice 8mm OP, I might have to give it another shot.

I like Tenex. OP is great, so is Beeline, I have a few of each, used them for months... but nothing sets automatically with a VT like Tenex. I don't even look at my hitch anymore, it sets EVERY time. Not so with tech cords, they aren't supple enough, I don't trust them to set without checking every time... it screws with my climbing. The DO finally set but if the coil is compressed there's this moment of slippage when you weight it that's unpredictable and disconcerting. They're fine with a Distel or a Swabisch, but not a VT or XT.

I'll take better handling over long wear anytime.

Tenex wears fast, but it splices fast... and it's dirt cheap. I know about the melting point but fact is, it's not so low that i've been able to melt one in working conditions. I don't zip don't a rope though but i have just to see what would happen. It glazed the hell out of the Tenex and I didn't want to use it anymore but it didn't damage it critically.

I like Bail Out myself. I tried Ocean and didn't really like it. You say tomato, I say tomahto. It's hard to explain why I'm right and you're wrong, but there it is.

I tried a tenex cord tied in a VT yesterday, Chip is right, it grabs quick and every time, I was using it on 1/2" BWR :) and after climbing around for an hour, it did not seem scathed, and I did try a few shorter speedy descents ;)

Yep, I'm always right. I wish everybody would figure it out and just submit to my logic.
