I could use it to make slings. Does he have a direct contact without going through ebay? I'm not willing to register with them due to excessive spam the last time.

I can contact him for you Skwerl or maybe I can find an email address for him. For slings wouldnt it be better to get some Tenex-tec, I got some 3/4" stuff which is plenty strong and easy to splice:)

Actually Carl, let me call you tonight if I may (after 7pm my time- I'm running low on daytime minutes). I think he may have better options for my needs. That one is a bit heavy and shipping cost makes it much less attractive.

edit- Paul, I prefer the double braid for my slings. They hold up better. Thanks though. I'll holler your way if Carl can't help me out. :)

I contacted him yesterday to see if he had anything longer (sampson stable brade in 5/8 or 9/16) & he replyed back indicating: "not at this time".

I've been dealing with this fellow ever since Carl put me on to the man a while ago. He's a good guy to do biz with as far as I'm concerned!

I picked up a 600' spool of BWR 1/2" Arbormaster rope a year ago this past winter. It cost me $450 for the rope & $30 to ship to Michigan where my in-laws live.

I find ya just have to give him your wish list well ahead of time and cross your fingers as far as bull rope orders go.

Once it was 50' in the air or so wouldn't it be kind of short then. Carl, we need you to work out the trig on this.

Yeah me too. I got a 100' 1" line rated at 50000. Nice if you have a 4' spar with a back-lean and a dozer handy.......

With 100' of rope you could pull over a ~70ft spar with the rope anchored right at the top and have the tip land on your toes. That doesn't account for the rope lost in tying the knot though. I think that's a bit short for a heavy duty pull line.

Would work fine here. The only 70' spars around here would be pine trees, no major brush weight so a 1/2" line is usually more than sufficient for pulling them over. With our sandy soils, anything heavy enough to need that big of a rope probably won't be super tall.

What you cannt back up man:?

Just razzing ya tis evening Rumi:D

Haha, actually that brings back a memory of pulling over my first tree when I first started as a groundie. I remember telling the climber/cutter "This rope looks a little short". He said "Don't worry, as soon as she really starts to go over you just start to running!". And boy did I run...

My way of thinking is that the tree gets bigger as you descend toward the base... Heck of a rope for some big live oak that needs lowering.... Or the 40 or so foot of a pondo.

100' long, figure 15' for knots leaves 85' of usable length. Attached 50' up the tree would get you just shy of 69' from the trunk.

a^2+50^2=85^2
a^2+2500= 7225
a^2=4725
a=68.74'
