These pics came across my desk this afternoon. There is a darn lucky FS employee down in the SW corner of Oregon.

According to the email that came with, the limb blew off the load and hit a FS truck coming the opposite direction.

Amazingly, he kept control of the pickup...I don't know how...you'd think the scare would put you right in the ditch, wouldn't you?

SO many reasons to secure your load. Just a good example, thankfully one that guy was able to live to tell.

lazy ness on someones part
the random limb could get caught in the grapple and end up in the load
chit happens
and that man was lucky. an inch more to one side he would have been impaled

I worry a little about something like that happening. The boom presses down on the load and it gets roped off pretty well, but still... Haul loads like this all the time. Does driving slow help?

Nope, unfortunately, the noise would not be allowable. Pretty efficient at dealing with the brush, I believe, one way to get good with a mini. A great percentage of our jobs are close to where we can dump, have to pay though.

Rachet straps work way better than tying it down with rope, fwiw.

Carl, if Jay were here to load brush, trips to the dump would be fewer.....

I thought I knew how to load brush until I saw that pic.

Personally I hate chippers. Rather have a grapple truck any day. WWB, that is a mighty workhorse of a truck you've got there!

That guy is lucky Burn. I remember a picture online of a guy who got in a crash and impaled himself with a fence post or something, it's a pretty well known pic. I guess they got it out though.

I'm glad I never had to load brush like that, Jay. I think I've done it half a dozen times, always cuss myself too saying "Shoulda brought the chipper".
