Every penny of it! Baileys had a four for a hundo deal for a while with free shipping. I own four and have only had to replace two handles in three yrs, darn newbies.

Not worth it. We have one and it's fine.... I guess..... but nothing special. Our favorites are the $6 Union Tools rakes.

I let my groundman pick the rakes. He uses them the most. He combined a certain rake head he liked with a type of handle he found. We put a few of that combo together.

I think they are great tools. Worth every penny. I have replaced 2 tines on 4 rakes in 2 years. I told my guys to abuse them, really put them to the test.

We have broken nearly every rake that is available. Mostly handles...

I liked the one we had a lot, it got lost on a job, haven't replaced it since. Beware, this isn't a 'fine' rake, it'll pick up just about anything and everything, so trying to rake things out of say a bed of mulch won't be the easiest chore. Other than that though, I loved it.

Does it leave the grass really clean? Or is it more for moving large material?

If I have to rake twice to leave it mint its no good right?

Leaves it very clean, it'll even pick out all the dead stems of grass. This is a very, ummm, 'through' rake I guess is the best word.

Y'all need to learn to use your bp blower in combination with your gk rake....
Remember people don't give a shit that you removed a 20,000 pound tree, made it fit in a 4x4 hole in the landscape. They only remember the condition that you left the property in.

A lot depends on what you are raking. For sticks, pine needles and clean up around the chipper, I swear by these from Lowes.

Then the blower comes out.

I'd be pissed if someone expected me to use that rake. I don't like plastic rakes, either. Gimme a good old metal tined 6 dollar rake, anyday.

People who bust handles don't know how to rake.

I have never broken a rake handle, shovels sure...sledges, picks, mattoxs and all that but not a rake handle.

I take that back, I ran one over once.

I got a batch of rakes once with crap wooden handles. None made it an hour of a day. All broke. I am no stranger to raking. If you cleaned pine needles off properties MB you would think different. Those last me 3 years minimum and leave a clean product. THEY ARE NOT FOR LEAVES OR CS SHAVINGS. For leaves and shavings you use more what Nick was asking about. If I have a garden that has to be bare dirt after raking, I use more what Nick was asking about. Right tool for the right job. I am just sharing what is successful for my primary environment.

Good luck busting a head on a Groundskeeper. If you stuff a dowel inside the hollow fiberglass handle good luck with that too.

Seriously, I have had rakes that are older than I and never broken a handle on them. Some of the newer ones have crap wood for handles. I broke one with two sweeps with nary any pressure just trying to flip some leaves up out of grass. I about only buy fiber glass handles anymore for that reason.

Yeah at Big Green they dont play that game, they send out enough guys to do the job and everyone does everything. Even the guys with 30+ years at the company rake and chip and all that. Its a bit disheartening to be honest.

I would much rather be a primadonna and not rake or chip at all!

I look at it this way.... it does not require a lot of maintenance or fuel to operate, and if someone wants to pay me my wage even after I come down out of the tree to run one on the ground..... more money in my pocket :D
