I seem to remember somewhere someone mentioning getting a rash from cutting Grevillea robusta (silk oak)
Anybody know anything..? I have one to work on next week, want to be prepared if necessary!

Most of the silk oaks around here froze out in the mid 1980s, along with the citrus. I can't recall ever working on one.

Philodendron vines make me itch like crazy though. I just deal with it then wash off with a water hose before leaving the jobsite. Not a big deal at all, part of the package.

you will know if your sensitive to it, real quick
ive had guys swell up, turn red, and have difficulty breathing...in the truck ask me" silk oak?"
of course we were chipping it when i pulled up

maybe a long sleeve shirt and a damp bandana if its dusty
it makes my nose run like im doing a sycamore with anthracnose

Silky Oak to us, look nice in flower. They can get pretty big. Very good timber for woodwork, doesn't burn though.

It's never worried me or anyone I know but some peolple seem to have a reaction to it, and other grevillias.

Woodworkers say it's the dust, tree guys say it's the brush.:dontknow:

Don't climb dead ones.

Hmmm interesting...I am allergic to poison ivy...going to go with the long sleeves and bandana suggestion. Probably make it the last one for the day, get home quickly and jump overboard!
This one is short and fat...been hammered more than once by storms, looks nasty but they like it so I'll take the money to pretty it up some!
