This is for fellas weighing 200 lbs. or more, climbing on 1/2" line.

What diameter & brand line are you using for your friction hitch?
I have been putting it off for a long time & it is now time to get my gear dialed in.

I knew about the tautline.
185 lbs? At your hieght thats skinny.

well, I'm just a tad under 200, I use 8mm, tried the 10mm and didn't like it.

Use 30" for Distel hitches, 32" for VT's :)

Also, a hitchclimber system, eg. the Hitchclimber pulley, and 2 oval DMM ultra "O"'s, on a weaver cougar rope bridge.
Got an aluminum ring on the bridge from CT ( a SAFE one ;) )

Once you get this style puppy dialed in??? you will be flying with no flip flop of biners and fast hand over hand moving :)

Damn Butch, you got biceps ala' Franco Columbo :)

And I'm 5' 8" RR, so I guess i qualify to help ya ;)

7mm Ultra-Tech with a 4/1 Distel, most often; 30" before the ends were knotted.

10mm Ice on occasion, about 20" including the eye splices.

I use 8mm beeline 3/3 wrap/braid on 1/2 inch line and I weigh 196 and have no problems8)

my weight varies from 185 to 195
plus saw and other junk ,
id say 2 and change

i use 1/2 inch limelite 11 mmor
16 strand safety blue hi vee
28 in bee line or medium from bailys
diestel hitch, no extra wraps
tender pulley between the legs of the bee line on a petzl tri act biner
the other end is a swivel biner
clean and simple
brian suggested the shorter line, leaves less slack in the system,
can add a pantin to help along, i even use an ascender just for the extra gripping surface if the hands are tired

i take some big swings and it holds fine, (propperly dressed), drops when i want, holds when i let go.

it does burn or glaze and holds pitch
i clean them with hot water and a washboard.

butch either there is a tumor on your right bicep or the light in that pic is weird...

i peaked at 196 but i'll sew my lips shut before i go over 180 again...what did jethro tull say...too much to carry around with you; too hard finding a...

Plus i too am a tautliner, nothin could be finer, here in caroliner :)

Hi guys. It's been awhile and after dodging the deletion bullet I figured I better contribute instead of just read.

Big climber here:

I stand at 6'4" & weigh in around the 270lbs mark.

I've been using 1/2" BlueStreak (Now called Arbormaster) for over 11 years.

Started off with the Taughtline for the first 5 years with no problems and been on the Blakes for the last 6 years.

On my flip-line/ lanyard, I adjust the length by using a VT. Sweet!

BFC here too!

6'4" and cant convert my weighing scales to lb (:P)

1/2" and 10mm with whatever config I feel like/want to experement with.

One thing I was told regarding diam. was not to drop more than 2.5 - 3mm. eg 11mm/8mm, 1/2"/10mm, and not to go 1/2"/8mm.

Dont know if there is any science behind it, like I say, it was just a rule of thumb I was advised to use.

6'3", 235lbs.

I use either Blue Streak for short climbs or Lava for longer clibs. Both with a 7mm Ultra-Tech VT. Sometimes, and this is rare, I switch back to a tenex Schwabisch. No good reason, just to mix it up.

Bee-line doesn't work well for me. Grabs too hard at first then not enough as it wears.
