I don't know about those particular models, but I've used ellipticals at the gym. The first time you use one, it will wear you out. They look so easy, but they really do work the muscles. It's a good low impact workout.

We have a Nordictrack E7. It seems to work fine to me but my wife said that the models that they have at the gym she goes to have better stability and nicer angles for her ankles when in use. I dunno what models the gym has but for whatever it is worth-both models that your dad is looking at look to be more updated/higher stability models compared to the E7.

I would love to add one of those to my collection. Good to hear your Dad is ready for stuff like that. When I started my personal therapy for my smushed foot it was 1/10 of a mile, lol.

So he's completely ambulatory? :)

Both of those models keep the foot flat, which he wants.

MB, how do you define ambulatory? Honest question.

Ha he can't jump on either foot, so that precludes running. He can walk unassisted, although only for limited duration.

Ellipticals freak me out.

I have been working out for 19 days now. That's it. I started Dec 6th and have tried to work out every day. Depending on what Pops wants from a work out, see if you have a YMCA around you that has a counter current track in the pool. It is the shits.

I have never worked out in my life prior and always made fun of the dorky guys on the tread mills. But after trying it at a serious level, I noticed that I feel about 10 years younger.

I have a bulging disc and need pain blocks. Tried all the goofy remedies including acupuncture. So, finally decided to take the Docs advice and increase strength in my Abs and lower back muscles.

I followed the basic training course the want new 41 year old guys who never worked out for the first month. Weights one day and 20 minutes cardio the next.

So now I have a new thing. Do all the weights like before one day, then the next day 10 minutes cardio. Only you do 2 minutes at a time going as hard as you can, coughing up a lung hard. then you rest for 4-5 minutes doing nothing but breathing. Repeat. You can mix up anything, rowing, running eliptical, Bike. Just all out haul ass!

The Idea here is that when you work out you use either sugar or fat for fuel. Then when you are not working out you burn the opposite of what you burned during the work out. The time you are not working out is much more than when you are working out. So you Want to burn sugar while working out and when you home sitting on the couch you want to be burning fat.

Slow steady long work outs burn fat for fuel. Short Bursts of extreme workouts burn sugar. And they freak your brain out into burning fat to prepare for the next random short burst when your not working out.

Its not for your Dad, but maybe some of you other folks who spend way too much time working out. I will let you know how it works. Going to try it this month.

We went by the Y to try out their elliptical to see if it's what he wanted.

He still can't practically drive, although legally he can.

Well, that may change once he starts using it. May want to have someone look into his food as well. There is alot of truth in that herbal mumbo jumbo.

Scott.

Carl, that is great news. I use an elliptical at the gym, not sure which brand. It can provide a good workout. Actually, if you push yourself, it can kick your butt!
