Early growth on Silver Maple

This is a big old silver maple at my wife's families house. It's just starting to leaf out, but there is one limb that is in full leaf already.

Any thoughts on what would cause it?

I have a hunch, but wanted to see what y'all thought.

I think you need to climb it and investigate
