Hey guys I was just seeing if anyone knew any truck dealers that sell the used asplundh chip trucks. I know they can be had for pretty cheap and I am looking for a bigger truck to use in addition to my f-350. If anyone knows any please let me know. Thanks guys!

Where are you located? Sagon Truck in Atlanta sells refurbished Davey trucks. There are dealers all across the country who buy up fleet trucks in bulk lots at auction and sell them off individually.

I am located right outside of Philadelphia, PA. I am willing to travel for the right truck. Also it doesn't matter if its gas or diesel. I just want something dependable. Thanks!

Well then be careful buying an old Asplundh truck. They get used up pretty hard and the majority of resellers are experts at turd polishing. Ask Carl about his Asplundh chip truck.

I heard that some of the them can be pretty beat up but I do know a couple guys who own them and love it for the price they paid. I am not in a tremendous hurry so I can look around for a while. Thanks again for the heads up!

Actually, I believe my truck was a Ryder before it was assembled as a chip truck. The frame was cut down, and the door jams are yellow.

Still, I damn sure wish it was a diesel. I'm selling it in the near future so I don't have to look at it anymore.

From what I've been told Aspludh replaces equipment every 7 years .Now weather that is actually the truth I can't say .Some Davey stuff is pretty much trashed out but some are fine .

Fact is that Tom's bucket truck was an old Davey unit and it's done him pretty well .

For that matter I still have that 11 foot Southco box that was from the big orange fleet out at my shop .It just needs a set of running gear in the form of a truck under it and it's good to go .

I bought my Bucket through Scmidy's here in Illinois. He doesn't buy junk like Kid Car USA, he is worth a look. Also the website for Schmidy's doesn't do them justice for inventory, half of what they have isn't on there. Call them.

Im looking to stay under 10 grand for now. I just bought another f-350 that I use too and spent 17,500 on that so I don't want to spend a ton more money. Kidcarsusa is also offering free airfare out there if you buy one of his trucks. I called schmidy's and he said he doesn't have any used asplundh trucks in.

I said Schmidy's doesn't sell junk. I understand you want to stay in your price range, but don't buy something you are going to have to dump a lot of money in, like those asplundh gassers.

yea thats what I don't want to do is buy something I am going to regret buying after using it for a month. I will give them a call back tomorrow and see what kind of trucks they do have in. Thanks for the heads up

I'd for sure get a diesel. Brian is spot on regardin the mileage my chip truck got/gets.

I pressume you have drivers for these trucks? Having two chip trucks for the average two man operation is silly, IMO.

We actually roll with about 4 guys everyday so we always have an extra driver. I like the mobility of the f-350 but when we are chipping with the 15'' chipper it just fills up way to fast.

Forestry equipment of shelby sells the older trucks for around 7k. You can pick from about 20 they have in stock. If you have a little bit of mechanical ability, these trucks are the best deal out there. I had one for 2 years and it never gave me any trouble. I drove the ever loving hell out of it everyday, towing, overloaded with wood. Sold it for 5 grand after finding a bigger diesel chip truck.

FWIW, I used to work for the big A, and I can tell you the gear gets rode hard and put away wet like you wouldn't believe. Our trucks were lucky to get an oil change one in their lifetime.

Since you mentioned that it seems as per Tom that every auction Tom has been at this guy seems to end up with the best stuff .

Tom is looking for either a complte unit or at least a good diesel chassis to set that 11 foot Southco on .Fact is I believe he's going to an auction either today or tomorrow .I should know by weeks end about what the prices tend to be at least in the midwest .
