7.3 PSD question

OK so I have one in my F550. When I change the oil I fire her up wait till I get oil pressure and then recheck oil level. Oil is always soot black right away due to the oil left in head and oil cooler (5 quarts i believe). A buddy of mine bought a 2002 F350 while back and he was all proud of it, I was looking it over and happened to pull the stick, the oil was clear as if fresh out of the bottle Anyways, 3000 miles later and it is still totally clear??? He doesn't have a bypass filter on it, I just don't get it.

I told him the stick must go down into a little bottle of unused oil

Any ideas

Quit using Rotella, it's the crappiest oil on the market.

How many miles on your 7.3L ?

My 2000 7.3 doesnt get sooty black at all (85k miles)....had a little kubota tractor that always sooted the oil up right after change though and it had super low hours.
