I've had my 361 for a couple years, it hasn't cut an awful lot, but always there when I need it.
I had taken out the spark arrestor, clipped it off and put the very outer bit back on over the slot. I kinda thought the saw was always a bit sluggish, maybe I hadn't tuned it just right, it was still newish and thought I'd get around to tweaking it later

Well I took that little cover and bolt off yesterday when I cleaned it, then used the saw again today and WOW, that saw has woken up, way better, way better!

Happy now :)

Breathe...breathing well

That's why I like lurking in the chainsaw forum, learn lots of stuff...

On the 361 that got dropped out of a large oak. I went so far as to eliminate the base gasket and pull the muffler apart and enlarge the openings, it got much better. But it really screamed when I ported and polished the intake and exhaust ports.
Then it got relieved of duty at my company(read some asshole stole it)

I've never worked on one and only seen a few .If however that thing has a baffle cage and a diverter around the exit where the screen goes removal of both will pep it up even more so .Now don't forget you still have to tune it a little after removal .

Can you richen the carb enough with just the adjustment screws or is there an internal jet to replace?

Usually just a partial turn on the high speed jet will dial one in .You don't have to get into drilling out the passages and jets on just a simple muffler mod .

I think it was a bit rich to start with, sounds just right now, I'll check the spark plug colour tomorrow...see how hi tech I am?
It smokes a bit, but then yesterday I did the oil in fuel tank boo boo...

Call it like it is Jay! :)

I caught it before I dumped too much in, poured it out, rinsed it and refilled...just a bit smoky
I was in between two removals...bit breezy, and the next one was a bit more complicated, just picked up the can and started pouring...

No matter my short female bud in Burmuda or half way around the world counterclockwise. It's all how you tune them.

The basics of tuning makes no respect if it's 105 degrees in the La swamps or 85-90 in the heart land.BTW summer in these parts is always somewhat of pain to dial in ,

Ha oil in the gas .Well there's a few things everybody will do eventually if they admit it .Oil the gas tank is one .Hang a saw in a cut ,put a chain on backward and cut a rock .

Get alerted early to the mistake, fill the oil first. Gas in the oil tank is better than oil in the gas. :D Little things that can make aging more tolerable.

Last time I did it was on a course in a forestry block in Wales...we were using bio oil, everyone knew what I did because my exhaust smelled like french fries...

Another classic is filling up the gas, then the oil and forgetting to put one of the caps back on...not even a stupid flippy cap malfunction, just plain not putting the cap on at all!

And then flipping the saw up on your shoulder pad!
Did that with the 660 last winter and poured a tank full o9f oil down my back, completely soaking my pants.
Since it was closer than home, I went to my dealer and picket up a fresh pair of saw-pants.
They sure got a laugh out of me showing up at the shop in my undies.
