'Twil be a bit better than Spam I trust. Basically looks like stewed beef and gravy in a jar. I've been told it's great in soup, stew, over taters, basically anything you'd do with beef stew meat. You cut the meat into cubes and pack the jars with it, adding only a teaspoon of salt per...

Ever tried it Willie? Some friends of ours have tried it and say it's great. You just cut the meat up into chunks, pack it in jars, add salt and process in your canner. They say it's great in recipes, or right out of the jars. We'll see I guess. Got 14 quarts pressuring on the stove now. Fixing...

Well........rest.......very solid rest.......off my shooting table on my front porch. He was standing just in front of and left of my 400 yard targets. He's still gonna make some good jerky, even if it was a gimme shot. :D

About 385 yards from my front door....one shot, one kill. Browning .270 Winchester, 140 grain Hornady BTSP. Gonna can some of it and make jerky from the rest.

Iffen I had to pay for their beef when it was in the road, (and it damaged my vehicle to start with), I'm afraid there might have to be some rustling in the near future......

I suppose the dilemma of the wildlife belonging to the state is nationwide. Our deer "belong" to the state of Alabama............until one runs out in front of you and causes major damage to your vehicle. Then it mysteriously becomes just the local wildlife, belonging to no one.

Coyotes are some of, if not THE most adaptable animals in North America. I read an article several years ago about their urban adaptation. Some of the accounts were amazing. The most amazing was the mention of a female raising a litter of pups in a culvert in town......she was blind......I'll...

Oh yeah....TURKEY.....another of their favorites. Turkeys had made a big advance here years ago, then something happened. I haven't seen them in several years now here on our place. Between coons, foxes and coyotes, they are having a hard time around here.

That's MY role, Butch, and I don't want them infringing on my duties! Actually, coyotes will kill fawns and/or wounded deer, but their main diet doesn't consist of deer. They are more into mice, rats, birds and other small game, with rabbit probably being their favorite delicacy.

"Tain't a deer, but he waltzed across the field whilst I was deer hunting, so I put an end to his career. Made the sixth time I've seen coyotes while deer hunting this year, so I'm sworn to cut the pack down to size. :D This one had notable black, another one I've seen is mostly red, and yet...

A friend of mine, who's a taxidermist, boils them a little while, then uses a pressure washer to blow off what will come off, then repeats, until the skull is clean. Looks disgusting, but saves a lot of the scraping, etc normally associated with european mounts.

Nice bucks there! The cold didn't have them moving here like I thought it would. I saw two young bucks this morning, then saw the same two right at dark.

My processor always lets them hang a few days...I usually request at least a week. All good beef you buy has been aged, some of it at least 2 weeks. I'm planning to build a meat cooler one day so I can age them myself and then cut/process them here at home. My plan is to build a small building...

I built the shooting house for days when it's raining or really cold. When the weather's agreeable, I prefer by far to sit in a treestand. But last winter when it was 12* out, I sat in reasonable comfort, lighting the heater every thirty minutes or so to stay warm. If sitting in a shooting house...

I hunt on private property where my brother-in-law and I are the only ones hunting, unless we take our kids. When my daughter goes alone, she wears an orange vest. I sometimes carry a vest in my pack, but seldom wear it. I don't believe for a minute that deer can see color, because I've had some...

Doesn't matter what you're wearing if the deer can't see you.....y'all don't have green boxes in Texas? We don't have to wear orange if in an enclosed blind or above 12' up in a tree.

I had a brother-in-law (now deceased) who was paralized from the waist down. He was an avid hunter and tried for some time (to no avail) to rig up a ladder stand/hoist combo to raise himself up into a tree. They sell such an apparatus now, as well as trailers with shooting houses in them that...
