    Quarter-sawn Sycamore has beautiful rays, like it a lot. Burns well, too - not as much heat as locust or osage, my favorite firewood choices.

    The trailer manufacturer south of me uses elm for the decks on his low-boy trailers. Says the way the grain weaves in and out of itself (which is why it is difficult to split) also keeps the caterpillar treads on the dozers and loaders from ripping it up.
