So....for real...thumbnails or full size? What works best as far as the site "health" and viewer ease is concerned? When I go look at my full-resolution images here they overfill the screen...is there a preference per you?

As long as you are not tongue in cheek, full size is a lot easier for sure...resizing (downsizing is a hassle). Hate to be slacking in the tech dept.:D

    Excavators

It was thick metal and we only moved it about a 1/2 inch...but that was enough to stop the scraping. We decided it has always been bent but the old rails were worn away and we didn't notice. With the new rail/chains for the tracks, they immediately were scraping so we had to bend it out. It took...

    Excavators

I still use bamboo all the time. Two days ago we were heating the rock guard on the excavator to bend it out a bit...it dared to scratch our new track rail! We used the bucket to provide a big pull to the heated metal. I used a long bamboo to test the chain tension when I first set up the...

    Excavators

So far it seems like the right size for us. The fellow we bought it from was using it to dig out (dredge out, like us) a pond but he wanted bigger. He got an 80K lb. Komatsu...pretty huge. This 320 is doing us good for now.

Yep...especially for a noob like me. I was doing just great out in the pond bottom...until I was not.

    Excavators

At one point, the CAT threw a track while I was out in the pond mess. Alex was able to use the Takeuchi to remove the track all the way and then walk the one-legged CAT back to shore...where he use the Hoochi to put the track back on. We knew the tensioner needed attention but did not know it...

Update on excavators...I bought a 2nd one. The Takeuchi TB370 is good for what it does...but we quickly realized it is too small to dig out the 20-acre pond. I found a 2006, CAT 320CL...long track/undercarriage, about 50K lbs...it'll move some mud. We have had some pretty good (bad!) adventures...

    Excavators

That's pretty interesting. I have never really considered having it delivered before. At some point we will be doing intensive work down there that might make that practical. I'm headed down tomorrow to spend this week there. We're going to cut the dam on the big pond and start draining it off...

    Excavators

I'm sure it could be done but we won't use enough to make that cost-effective I don't think. We've got three big tanks on the property now. Granddaddy used to use them for his equipment. Each one's probably 6 ft long and 3 ft in diameter, so they hold a lot. They're mounted about 8 ft up and...

Good input. That Ford is Alex's daily driver and has a lockable bed cover. He usually has it full of tools he is using for different jobs...no room for the fuel tank there. We are going to have to work with it like that for now as we develop/evolve our method. We were humping 5 gallon plastic...

    Excavators

Good thoughts and I appreciate the input. We've got the front of the trailer filled up with a new ditch bucket, mulcher and a fuel tank. We have to rest the bucket on the excavator on the trailer deck to chain it safely. So I think we're just about limited to what you see there. And I added a...

B is right...I told Alex a few days ago we need to get a bit more serious about the size of that flag. Good eye, Carl!!

    Excavators

We have been getting our eggs lined up...Alex got a fuel transfer tank from a retired FF..good price..made a mount for it. I ordered a 48" ditch/grading bucket for scooping lots of pond muck...it took about 6 MONTHS to arrive. Supply chain issues with TAG manufacturer. Alex picked it up a few...

That's a cool idea, Stephen. I have not seen that and, yes... We do have access to fire hose. I'll shoot that idea to Alex... Thanks.
