    I agree. It's like worrying about a hypodermic needle stick after you've been hit with the 12 gauge shotgun. Spiking is not going to be a big deal.

    I don't see much tree worth saving. That broken right lead is going to be a big wound/entry point for decay. That left lead looks paltry...and when the decay hits that crotch will just break off. Spur up and drop that left lead or just drop the whole mess perhaps. But in the meantime use it...

    You should include pictureS of the tree itself....folks will have a better chance of suggesting solutions.
