You have a lot of interestingly shaped trees down there. My yard would be full of "treasure" if I was cutting that stuff.

He's angling for a Burnham sticker. Not only do they made APTAs shoot farther, they level saws, and smooth cuts.

Bullshit. I know a good bit about falling trees, and I know shameful work when I see it. Before I was even a member here I knew you weren't anyone I needed to pay attention to. You've got the notable reputation you desperately crave, but it isn't for anything /I'd/ be proud of...

Permanent. Practice makes permanent. Do it wrong enough times, you'll always do it wrong.

Jed cuts like a logger where fiber pull is bad. I'd say the hinge was sufficient since the tree ended up where he wanted it. He also sent it with wedges, which is more elegant than using a rope. It needs to hold enough, and not a gram more.

How about something like this... https://www.uline.com/BL_445/Uline-Trash-Cans-with-Wheels?keywords=trashcan Could be fitted with bigger wheels, and something rigged to haul it into a truck.

Are you talking about the ones with the handles that can be lifted by an equipped trash truck? Perhaps you could rig something on the back of the chip truck that lifted them, and locked them in place behind the truck?

I was thinking that too cory. Probably not a big deal for an amateur, but if you're hitting the woods every day with a crosscut and an axe, I'd think it wouldn't take much time to wear significant notches in the handle. I'd probably make something for the saw to ride on if I were doing it all...

I was never taught. I knew the basic concept from using handtools, then mixed that with pictures and written descriptions of rough dimensions to hold. I started with the angle first cause it seemed right. I then saw a lot people in videos starting with the horizontal, so I gave that a try, and...

Pretty sure it is up for debate cause I just told you my cuts are better when I start with the gun. I'm sure I'm the absolute authority on the quality and style of the work *I* perform.

I think that's probably personal preference. My cutting got much better when I started doing the horizontal first. I find it easier to gun, and I have an easier time matching the cuts up.

Hindsight's 20:20, but perhaps boring it would have been a good idea if he was afraid of going too deep in the face.

Probably time, but you gotta do what you gotta do. What's the saying; "An inch at the stump's worth a foot on the stem", or something like that?
  18. lxskllr

    hinge pics

That was one of the uses I knew of, especially in very thin stems. Also the short bar, but that didn't immediately come to mind. I try to overkill everything. I prefer one cut all the way through if at all possible, and I've yet to make two major felling cuts. Everything I've done so far has...

Why did it make it easier to pull by hand(maybe as opposed to making it a hair thinner)?

The ash I cut last year sent a sprout up from the stump. Nice and straight. How big do they get before EAB decides it looks good enough to eat?
