    What you have looks like a soapstone marker. You use them for marking metal, and you can get a case for them to protect, and extend it as it wears.

    Spare saw, or at least a b&c is always a good idea in case of disaster, but when my chain goes on a bar, it stays there til it gets demoted to stumping/trash work. Minus bar cleanings of course. I don't mind sharpening, and sometimes very much enjoy it, but my patience only extends to one...

    Stihl specs 13/64 for their chains, and I like that size better than 7/32. It's still a hair big when there's no teeth left, but when the chain's newer it gives more leeway for adjustment.

    I have an old file that probably should have been swapped out a few sharpenings ago. I make big pieces of wood smaller, and it takes as long as it takes :^P

    Starting page6 now. What strikes me most is guys like Gerry and Jed having to beg to get decent gear. Life's too short for games like that.
