I love my HH for all those reasons Paul. Its to the point where I kinda just consider it my 'hitch' and dont really differentiate between SRT or DRT, its all rope climbing and the HH is the perfect rope tool.

Probly way less. Unless you isolate your climb line and then base tie you never hit that (theoretical) 2x force. With the deflection and how I set my line, generally across the top of the tree, my PSP (primary suspension point) probly never sees more than 1/2 my weight or less. I hang off...

There arent really a lot of cases of people dying because their toothed ascender tore through the rope. I am sure there might be some, but its common practice in rock climbing to rope solo a fixed line with two mini traxions on separate tethers. Both are somewhat slack and catch a dynamic fall...

The strength of the zig zag isn't comparable to that rigging plate. I bent a zz by hand with a biner. You couldn't bend that plate by hand if your life depended on it.

You gotta block it with a knot... even if it doesnt self tail out of reach it might not make it through the crotch without a knot above it. Sometimes you need a knot on both sides...

I got a new hitchiker last week, traded a ropewrench for it. Its just as great as my old one. There is nothing wrong with my older one besides some aesthetic 'character' that it has accrued.

I will remake it for you if for some reason you cant/dont want to... Thats a bummer. Were you catching pieces from above the rigSAVER? I use mine in basket config all the time, for almost all the rigging I do. It has never given me any problems.
