    How's the splice today?

I bought one of those wands and tried splicing 16 strand single core lifeline (Arbormaster). The splicing tool ended up in a mangled pile on the floor and I was out over $100. I went back to using a bent coat hanger wire, and I'm still using the exact same coat hanger wire today 15 years later...

    How's the splice today?

Rope on rope rubbing would need to be severe to cause any concern. Like your lifeline trapped under a lowering line with a 1000 lb limb and the groundie is burning it to the ground to keep from shaking you out of the tree. The rubbing you are talking about wouldn't even be noticable when you...

    How's the splice today?

I used to do the whipping on my splices years ago but they kept getting xhewed up by tree bark. Then I went to 'hidden' lock stitches and no more issues.

    How's the splice today?

To dress the end of a cut rope, I first wrap it tightly with a little bit of masking tape. I use the blue painter's tape (less glue). Cut the rope in the middle of the tape with a razor knife. Then I melt the end of the rope with fire (a cigarette lighter). Smooth off any rough edges with the...

    How's the splice today?

Tonight I'm making some rigging slings for a buddy. 3/4" Sta Set, easy double braid splices. I'm not very fast but I get it done. Doing 8 at once instead of one at a time. Should be done in a couple days.

    How's the splice today?

It's not pretty fancy colors but a friend gave me a hank of lightly used 9/16" polyester double braid rope rated at 10K. Splicing it up into rigging slings to use in the bucket. Got two done (4 splices) the last two days. Need to rest my hands a bit before doing any more.

    How's the splice today?

I recall looking up a rope manufacturer's directions for splicing a locking Brummel and the typical instructions are based on the assumption that you only have access to one end of the rope. Pulling the tail of the rope through the braid is just a shortcut. So I assume you just did the second...

    How's the splice today?

I put a tape measure to the sling I made and it was 68", a bit longer than I wanted. So I just made another one at 58". Those two slings will work perfectly for stepped increases from the 48" loop runners. The first one has a hidden lock stitch while the shorter one has a more traditional...

    How's the splice today?

All my rigging slings have tight eyes for carabiners. Today I made this one with large eyes for choking medium size logs without a carabiner. It's just over 5' long so I can grab slightly larger pieces than using the 4' loop runners.

    How's the splice today?

I spliced Fly once, back when it first came out. Never again. And it wasn't that good of a tree rope either. I still have it in a box somewhere, it's not durable enough to even make a decent lowering line. I've found double braids to be the easiest for me to splice (not counting hollow...
