You can usually see grease in there if it has been greased. Not all new bars with hole have been greased.

I wonder if graphite would be any good in a new sprocket? Like pump a mix of grease and graphite in, then patch the hole shut.

I've always thought it would be neat to have a channel inside the bar that directs oil straight to the bearing, so dirt can't easily get sucked in there. Too many people think the oil on the chain will oil the bearing, but it is impossible since the oil gets flung off by rotation.

I wonder if there is a better tip that fits? Yea, tell them about it, send pictures. Someone should make hard nose replacements to swap with a sprocket.

Sugihara bars are nearing Tsumara/Total prices around here. I remember when they were commonly found somewhere in the $180-260 range, at least on ebay.

I know why they use them, I was just agreeing with Magnus that racers probably don't use them for long life, but for the width because few if any other brands have them.

My issue with relying on bar oil is how the chain flings the oil away from the sprocket. I think having no grease holes, but cleaning the sprocket with an air compressor and soaking it in oil would be best. The grease holes can let dirt get sucked in.

I think grease can build more heat over oil. Also notice how Stihl has no oil holes or sometimes just one. I think Husqy is doing similar now.

I think weight is an issue when you are holding the saw all day long, and for limbing too.

Can you do any maintenance to get more than a couple months out of your bars, or are they that far gone by then? Maybe go up a chain gauge or something?

I've found those hold a bend unlike the solid ones which are like leaf springs.

I would think laminated would be prone to having welds break when bent.

I don't know if Tsumara is better than Stihl, but certainly a high quality alternative to Stihl along with Total while being cheaper than Sugi. I think they are all about equal. I have had a 32" Total bar get bent pretty far, and I was about certain it would hold a bend, but it straightened out...
