Welders? Any welders on this site?

Does the warranty include batteries that fail due to normal age/cycle count? Some companies do unusually good warranties. Some electric fence companies warranty lightning damage. They probably build that into the price. In theory the battery drill could be capable of a lot more for a short time.

extra batteries are expensive, and using batteries, when there's really no need is kind of wasteful in my opinion since they have a much shorter life (total number of cycles) than the tool.

The ideal would be a corded battery tool, so you can toss the cord when inconvenient, and plug it in when the battery gets low.

That's unlimited instant power. Not waiting on a charger.

Seems like a stupid design to me, having a wedge at both ends.

    That's what I thought, but wasn't sure.

I got some "weldable steel" with red paint on the end from Lowes. I was sanding off the label, and found the gray oxide layer to be quite thick. Is it just an oxide layer, or is it some protective coating that helps improve the weldability? Basically, should I grind off all the dark gray before...

If generating 3 phase, I'd drive it off a gas engine. There'd be too much in losses and too little of portability to use an electric motor to drive a generator, in my opinion. That would be 2 sources of power loss between the wall and welder instead of one between a gas engine and welder.

I disagree, as far as what I meant in my earlier post. There's still a lot of skill involved with chainsaws and ropes. We aren't cutting trees with robots. That's like comparing electric welders with some sort of brazing or forge welding. We're talking about robots vs people actively running the...

Not using robots could in theory help society, because if people have to learn to do things well and right the first time, while having attention to detail, then they might use that behavior in daily life. But, then some people just never learn to do anything well.

Here's where I'm a dummy: how does printing more money cause inflation? Why do I need to charge more and pay more because someone is printing lots of trading paper? Even if they freely give that trading paper to a bunch of people, well then they are richer and can buy more of my stuff, which...

Time to build your own? I know I'd build my own stump grinder and chipper rather than buying. I probably wouldn't use hydraulics on either since they are expensive, and messy when they fail.

Lots of stuff is up 35% here: gas, food, fertilizer. Steel stuff is up like 50%.

Looks good. They don't say much about the breaking strength, while JB often advertises it. I have used JB epoxy inside chainsaw engine ports.

Bummer. AS far as returning it I have another coming to see if it has the same defects. I got this knowing it would likely have defects, but none severe enough to make it not work, so I'm ready to fix it and use it if need be. No sense in messing around with however many returns it takes to get...

I got a chinese diesel parking heater recently, and took it apart to inspect the quality first. I found a partially cut through wire, and this casting flaw. Any chance I could help it out with some welding, if I choose to keep this thing? Think I could get away with a little tack welding without...

I'd be concerned about a failure in the auto darkening mechanism: dead battery, delayed response, oxidation of electrical connections, etc

I don't know for sure, but I thought some soldering flux is based on pine rosin. I'm not sure how dangerous pine sap fumes are to breath. I should try using some sometime to see if it works as soldering flux. I have observed pine resin and rosin easily spreading over the surface of aluminum when...

So what do you mean by red rod the cuts? I don't know much about welding.
