I'm sure that bump is from crossover stitching. Not doing the stitching will give a smoother crossover- but you have to be an attentive splicer and not let the crossover slip open while assembling the splice. Don't fret that bump. Get out there and climb on it. That's a good looking splice...

It's all about tension. At some point you buried a little without keeping tension pulling on the eye. When you do that, the core gets pulled in a little faster than the cover does because some of the core tail gets pulled further down. I'm not sure if I can explain it...because it's midnight...

Yeah that cover and core wasn't kept in balance as it was being run home. In another rope id squeeze it and pull the core out to rebalance it. But if you made this thing right, there's no way in hell the core will balance back out. It's an ok looking splice. But I'd chop it off and put it on...

Honestly this is a debated topic. Samsons published WHOOPIE directions say to bury maybe 1 ⅓ fids (fid and a short) or somewhere near there. But there aren't published directions for a loopie. I do 1 ⅔ fids. Some folks do 2 fids. You should call Samson on Monday! love nick

I never premeasure whoopies and loopies. I just make the splice, pull enough off the reel to create the desired sling, then chop it off there. Will that work? love nick
