Yes absolutely. I only understand so much of what's being said.

Plus stuff is cheaper, like you say, do I spend an hour in the workshop at the end of the day trying to repair something or salvage a rocked chain etc or get a new one? If it's too tricky chuck it back at the dealer and pick up your spare.

I don't suppose you've ever thought of videoing any of these lessons Magnus? I'd be interested.

TBH Magnus, I'd rather just buy new ones. Arborist/tree surgeons/loppers prefer to spend our spare time down the pub talking ourselves up rather than doing basic maintenance:lol:

I haven't kept up with this thread, but I seem to remember posting earlier about poor results on my part on some chains. Anyhow on my 288 and 372 I said to myself "bollocks to it" listened to some advice on here and got new bars. Et voila, problem solved, cutting as they ought to. Guide...

I reckon you're right. I couldn't suddenly become crap at it. I'll change the bar on the 288/372 And yes arborists or whatever we call ourselves could learn a lot from timber guys.

I'll give it a try, I'm having real problems at the moment with sharpening. I mean after 20 years of this game I reckon I can sharpen a saw, I'm no Jedi but up to 6 months ago I wouldn't embarrass myself. Just lately I've been sharpening in the workshop in a vice with a spotlight and,as often as...
