Back In The "Day" I've had to file the most 'effed up chains OTJ ASAP just because my cheap boss had nothing else available. Ha. I was just happy to have a new/good file!!!

I see no problem with filing when I want to where I want to. I can file a small saw in about 7 minutes, bigger saws a bit longer. I sure ain't swapping a chain when all it needs is a 'lil tickling!

Yep. My hands stay in the same position, and I advance each tooth. Doing that helps me to keep a consistent angle.

AFAIK, the chainbreak has nothing to do with tensioning the chain.

My buddy tightens the chain before filing. That works, but the you've got to re-adjust, which is a PITA. I like the idea of jamming it up...

I'm really liking that, but I think a smaller wedge will work just fine.

I need both hands on the file, especially if it's a little worn.

Not me, but I won't file a loose chain.
